K-Album Review: A.Tract – 1st Maxi Single

I happened across this band while I was searching for some Korean music that’s NOT pop/dance/hip-hop.  Of course, I’m already a fan of Yoon Do-Hyun Band, San-Ul-Lim and other great rock bands, but I always keep my eyes open for new ones and here’s a winner.  A.Tract. Or A-Tract.  Whichever.  They use both.  The average age of this band? Seventeen and a half.  But you’d never know it by listening to their music.  For Korea, they have a very fresh sound and I was pleasantly surprised by their album.

Track 1: It’s Over – Powerful rock song.

Track 2: 이별 애 (Goodbye Girl )(哀) – Beautiful rock ballad.  Great hook and the vocals are spot-on.

Track 3: Rain – Another power rock song.  Reminds me of Three Days Grace.

Track 4: Good-Bye – They slowed it down a little again here. Apparently their first single.  I hope they catch on in Korea, because I would love to hear more from them – and soon!

Track 6: 이별 애 (哀) – Instrumental

The best part about these guys is that they play all their own instruments as well as compose their own music. While not unusual here in the US, this is a rarity in most popular  groups in Korea – I love them all, but they’re way over-produced and can become quite unoriginal.  I’m going to stay tuned to them, and I hope you do too!
